Self-care, Let go of being right and embrace peace

Be selective in your battles. Sometimes peace is better than being right.Unknown

Whether it was business, sports, politics or relationships, my competitive juices aka EGO drove me to prove and hold on to being right at all costs. I saw myself as the guardian of right and wrong and anything less than being “all in” when defending what I felt was right was hypocritical. I had no interest in meeting anyone where they were on a position or opinion. Often, I chose not to see any side but my own.

Looking back, it is obvious that this warped thinking exacted a terrible cost. It often cost me my happiness, balance and peace. I remember hearing people say “it is better to be happy than right”, but that did not seem to resonate within me. It took many painful changes in my life to help me examine the priorities I had been living by. I was desperately seeking peace, and letting go of my passionate pursuit of being right seemed to be blocking me from finding a balance in my life.

I was now open to growth and learning. Perhaps it was humility, but I was no longer invested in the concept of right and wrong. It was my pursuit of peace and happiness that opened this door. I was able to let go of the hollow “victories” I had valued, and now lovingly sought peaceful pathways to resolution. No longer was I willing to invest in the struggle to be right. There are more important priorities to be pursued with no looking back! My ego was in check and peace was in sight. Now this is victory!
