Self-compassion is a practice that softens the heart and creates a ripple effect that is so powerful that it changes worlds. It changed my world that is for sure!
I was accustomed to having compassion for others. I was taught this at home, at school, in church, and in my community. I am all about being compassionate when I am able to heap it upon others. But I was so stingy when it came to pointing that compassion inward. I was a pro when it came to self-criticism, but I resisted self-compassion as if it were a sin! Self-compassion was very difficult for me because I had confused it with self-pity. Self-pity heals nothing and I had seen it keep people I knew and loved frozen in a place of self-destruction.
Self-compassion by contrast, is healing and nourishing. And if I was healed and nourished, think about how rich my contributions to others would be. That felt right!
Through EFT I was easily able to blend self-acceptance and self-compassion. For example, here is a tapping script…
“Even though I feel this challenging emotion or physical pain, and I accept that it is what it is right now, and maybe it has been for a long time, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself and am ready to continue on my journey of healing”.
Finding and using this tool was my first of many steps in what would be my next stage, Self-care! Thank you for joining me on this journey and I welcome the sharing of your thoughts and comments! To be continued…
