Self-care, Post Traumatic Resilience

“Blessed are the hearts that can bend, for they never can be broken.”Albert Camus

According to Dr. Robert Scaer, when faced with a perceived threat, we can react with fight, flight or freeze. We are now learning that in freeze reaction, trauma can be trapped in our bodies and psyche.

The components of trauma are UDIN:

  • Unexpected
  • Dramatic
  • Isolating
  • No Strategy aka Helpless

Resilience begins with an awareness of the negative learning of a traumatic event. This is where you can tap into your Post Traumatic Resilience with self-awareness and curiosity.

“What did you make that event mean about your power and about the world?” Then follow up with, “and what did that mean?”

For example, if you were assaulted and no one came to your rescue, your negative learning about the meaning about your power and your world might be, “I am not safe or I am never safe.” And that could mean, “the world is not safe.” These beliefs are trapped in your body and psyche.

It is important to note that every event can be interpreted uniquely depending upon our individual interpretation of that event. It is very personal and completely individual, and there is no such thing as a universal response. Therefore, there is no universal pathway to resiliency. This is a personal quest and journey to understand the meaning of these traumatic events.

With my clients, I have personally utilized tools such as Matrix Re-imprinting and EFT, to answer the questions that need to be clarified to better understand the meaning of the event, the learning of the event, and what is necessary to shift to a resilient and positive learning and re-imprinting. Post Traumatic Resilience is within our grasp and can lead to the freedom, peace and flourishing that will dramatically change the trajectory of our lives!
